Comprised of members Ryan O’Rourke, Michael O’Connor, Zach Pliska and Johanna Champagne, Detroit quartet FUR is described as having a pop sensibility hidden behind a minor-keyed, post-punk veneer; a mashup of Bends-era Radiohead, Joy Division, and just a touch of those vampish Brits, Muse. These aren’t daylight tunes. But they do go well with Pornography-era Cure and your mom’s mascara. Although FUR may defy the genera, they certainly flirt with the washed-out aesthetic of shoegaze rock. Yet in all those guitar-gored echoes and feedback roars, you never really lose the clap of the beat and the hook of the melody.
